Langkawi is located just off the coast of Malaysia, south of Thailand, approximately a 7 hour night ferry from Koh Tao to be specific. Fun fact, most divers who live on Koh Tao visit Langkawi for their visa runs. When we arrived we knew we had found a paradise in the making. White sand beaches, pristine blue waters, tasty local food and a scooter ride away from the perfect sunset. We hope you like our 7 Fun Things to do in Langkawi.
Grab a Scooter and Drive Around the Island.
Although the Island is quite small it’s probably best to rent a scooter and explore for yourself all the magic Langkawi has to offer. We managed to catch a few waterfalls whilst driving around, which became a highlight to our trip. Not to mention convenience when it comes to transportation.
TIP: Make sure you get your international driving license before you arrive. Scooters are roughly $5-8 per day and are available in the town centre. If you rent for longer make sure you haggle down the price.
Visit Telaga Harbour.
The Docks are a great place to visit if you fancy spending time watching the boats come and go and enjoying your food at one of the more luxury restaurants in town. Peace and Quiet is all you feel whether your with your family or by yourself in this stunning old fashioned location. When it’s been a long day this is the best get away for some peace and quiet with a cheeky glass of wine and some beautiful views.
Take a Gondola to The Sky Bridge.
The skybridge is a popular tourist destination created in 2005. The bridge deck is located 660 metres above sea level at the peak of Gunung Mat Chinchang on Pulau Langkawi, which is a long way up if you’re not a fan of heights. The gondola ride was great, again not for the faint hearted as it’s steep incline can have you closing your eyes until you reach the top. (This was me) Despite the height, the view is something extradenary to say the least and totally worth the £10 ticket.
TIP: You can purchase your ticket when you reach the venue or you can do it online Here.
Visit the Main Strip in Town.
Langkawi is known as more of a holiday destination with paradise beaches and dreamy sunsets that seem to last for days but not many people talk about the town. If you happen to visit the town located on the main strip on Kuah, you will find lots of cute and quaint shops dotted in the midst of restaurants. Not only are these shops right on the pier but there’s also numerous amounts of duty free shops so perfect for any souvenirs you looking to buy for family and friends back home.
Spend the Day Relaxing by the Beach.
Most of what we did here involved some kind of stop off at a beach. As Langkawi is an island you are surrounded by beautiful beaches everywhere you turn. Most beaches are great for your typical swim and sunbathing activities but there are ones like Penang Beach which offer exhilarating water sports like jet skiing and banana boating for a decent price.
Explore Durian Pranging Waterfall.
Not only is Langkawi known as an island paradise but it’s waterfalls are also one of the best kept secrets here too. After a short scooter ride we stumbled upon this place and was the perfect pit stop for cold dip and some down time just relaxing amongst nature.
Tip: This waterfall was our favourite during our trip. Make sure you get there early to avoid the crowds.
Catch a Sunset at Pantai Kok Beach.
One of the most amazing sunsets to date. Make sure if you do head over to Langkawi that you catch the sunset at Pantai Kok Beach. Not only did we relish in those burning orange vibes but it’s an incredible place for those perfect Instagram shots and a great way to finish a holiday with a view to remember.
Travel Around Langkawi.
Most travellers opt for scooters as their main transportation however if you don’t fancy renting a scooter there is GRAB which is available on androids phones for cheap rides around. Bicycle hire is also quite popular here if you don’t want to travel long distances and you can usually rent them out for $5 a day at your local hostel or Hotel.
